With SmartLogon™ multi-factor authentication, digitronic offers a secure login solution for operating systems that requires an additional component that the respective user has in addition to the normal password. In technical terms, this is referred to as a “token”.
A core function of SmartLogon™ is not only to react to the token being placed on a reader and thus secure a login to the operating system, but also to react to its removal with an automatic lock or logout. Previously, this required a permanent connection between the token and the card reader. However, in various areas of application, such as in the hospital environment, this proved difficult to actively implement. Therefore, digitronic developed a software-based solution: The FlipFlop mode enables Windows login with a one-time connection between token and reader, without continuous contact. When the token is presented to the reader again, the logout and blocking processes are then carried out automatically and conveniently.
There are other challenges in other areas of application. Many of our customers already have tokens in use, which hang on their key rings as fobs and were previously used for time recording, for example. However, these so-called “keyfobs” can easily slip off the usually flat card readers, which, depending on the setting, can lead to immediate logout from the operating system. In order to prevent this and to guarantee a quick logon even in hectic situations, a funnel-shaped holding device developed by digitronic helps with the permanent secure placement of tokens on readers.
